Brief description of study

The research study is being conducted to investigate the efficacy of twice daily vs. once daily administration of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and human recombinant deoxyribonuclease (DNase), also collectively known as intrapleural enzyme therapy (IET). We hypothesize that once daily IET will be as effective as and noninferior to twice daily IET in treating complicated parapneumonic effusion and empyema.
