KINETIC (Kidney transplant Improvement through New Exercise Training to Increase Capacity)
Brief description of study
To assess the feasibility and acceptability of a home-based prehabilitation intervention among kidney transplant candidates; to acquire preliminary data regarding the effects of a home-based prehabilitation intervention on improving physical activity and function and frailty components among kidney transplant candidates; and to evaluate the early efficacy of a home-based prehabilitation intervention on pre-kidney transplant and post-kidney transplant outcomes. Primary outcomes are feasibility target: recruitment, retention, acceptance, and safety of the pre-habilitation program during the 12 weeks intervention period. Change in gait speed, upper and lower body strength, and mean daily steps, as well as self-reported physical function from baseline to 12 weeks, and to 24 weeks; while on kidney transplant waitlist: activation/de-listing rates and mortality; if receives transplant: rates of delayed graft function, hospitalization, and mortality.
