Brief description of study

The purpose of this research study is to determine if frailty assessments can be used to predict how well patients aged 60 years and older will do after chemotherapy, CAR T-cell therapy, or allogeneic stem cell transplant.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Leukemia, Acute, MDS
  • Age: 60 years or above
  • Gender: All

Eligibility Criteria Arm A:

  • Age 60 years or older.
  • New diagnosis of Acute Leukemia or MDS, or suspected diagnosis.
  • Able to consent to the study.

Eligibility Criteria Arm B:

  • Age 60 years or older with a hematologic malignancy.
  • Plan to undergo an allogeneic blood or marrow transplantation or CAR T-cell therapy.
  • Able to consent to the study.

This study investigates the use of frailty assessments to predict outcomes for patients aged 60 years and older who are receiving treatments such as chemotherapy, CAR T-cell therapy, or allogeneic stem cell transplant for blood cancers. Frailty assessments help determine a patient's physical resilience and vulnerability, which may influence treatment decisions and outcomes.

Participants will undergo frailty assessments, which involve evaluating various physical and health indicators to understand the patient's overall health condition. These assessments aim to provide insights into how well patients might respond to different therapies and help in tailoring personalized treatment strategies.

  • Who can participate: Individuals aged 60 years or older with newly diagnosed or suspected Acute Leukemia or MDS, or those with a hematologic malignancy planning to undergo allogeneic blood or marrow transplantation or CAR T-cell therapy, are eligible. Participants must be able to consent to the study.
