Brief description of study

The objectives are to measure mitochondrial respiration and metabolomics of human pregnant myometrium at term gestation. The primary objective of this study is to measure parameters of mitochondrial respiratory capacity in live pregnant human myometrium in obese versus non-obese subjects at the time of delivery. The secondary objectives are to measure the extracellular matrix (ECM) content of myometrium in obese versus non-obese subjects, and to perform targeted metabolomics of myometrial samples by evaluating markers of oxidative stress, specifically measuring glutathione metabolites and long-chain fatty acid metabolites.
