Stroke Biorepository
Brief description of study
Study Objectives
This is an observational, non-interventional study. The goal of this project is to facilitate translational research to advance the field of acute neurology and neurosurgery by establishing a biobank of blood samples and correlating data from patients with LVO. Prior to conducting any research involving human subjects, written and signed informed consent will be obtained in an understandable language explaining the purpose of the repository, as well as the risks and benefits of participation. Only systemic and post-thrombus blood samples (coordinated with clinical blood draws whenever possible) will be included.
Primary Objectives
1. To identify biological and physiological markers of LVO by comparing proteomic biomarker profiles in post-thrombus and systemic blood samples (serum, plasma, leukocytes) collected from patients with acute ischemic stroke. 2. To identify transcriptomic biomarker profiles in post-thrombus and systemic blood samples to better understand the molecular mechanisms underlying stroke progression and recovery. 3. To identify genomic and epigenomic biomarker profiles in post-thrombus and systemic blood samples and their association with clinical outcomes in LVO patients. Secondary Objectives 1. To correlate proteomic biomarker profiles with stroke severity and clinical outcomes, identifying markers that distinguish between mild, moderate, and severe cases of LVO. 2. To analyze transcriptomic biomarker profiles to determine their role in predicting short-term and long-term recovery trajectories. 3. To explore the relationship between genomic and epigenomic biomarkers and individualized patient responses to treatment, with a focus on identifying potential therapeutic targets.
