Brief description of study

The goals of this study are to compare markers of inflammation between women and men with sickle cell disease (SCD) and to see how these markers are associated with pain from SCD. The duration of this study is 1 month, during which you would complete a blood draw every 5 days with a total of approximately 6 visits. The visits include blood draws, surveys, and a total of 2 pregnancy tests for female subjects (one at the beginning of the month, and one at the end of the month). We are seeking women and men who are between the ages of 15 and 50 who have been diagnosed with SCD (genotype SS or S-beta0). Additionally, we are seeking women who have regular menstrual cycles.
