NOX2 with ARDS
Brief description of study
Mortality in critically ill patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) or severe sepsis is now thought to be due to the predominance of an exaggerated inflammatory response from an overactivated immune system. Our goal here is to monitor the overactivation of immune cells in ARDS patients and assess if the overactivation of immune cells correlates with severity of ARDS.
Objective 1: Monitor immune cell activation (by using peripheral blood mononuclear cells or PBMC ex vivo) in ARDS patients.
Objective 2. Monitor ARDS severity measures and ARDS scores of the patients whose blood has been obtained. Study association of immune cell activation and ARDS severity.
Objective 3. Associate immune cell activation signaling with ARDS severity.
No interventions will be carried out except in the ex vivo PBMCs in culture.
