Brief description of study

The purpose of this study is to (1) determine if circulating metabolites, including sphingolipids, are associated with severity of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in participants with diabetes mellitus type 2 and to (2) identify metabolic risk and protective factors that are associated with the development and progression of DR.
