Move On Up (MOU)
Brief description of study
The MoVEonUp Study is a NIH-funded study for women who are 70 years or older and experience urinary incontinence (bladder leaks). The study will test an exercise and bladder training program to reduce the risk of falling and improve bladder symptoms. No travel for the study is required. Study visits will be performed at home with research staff. The length of the study participation is 12-months.
Detailed description of study
Participants will be randomized to one of two groups, a home-based exercise group or a control group.
The home-based exercise intervention group will participate in the exercise intervention consisting of strength and balance training, bladder retraining, urge suppression techniques, and home hazard reduction.
The control group will receive an educational booklet on falls prevention and behavioral treatment of UI. This group will have access to the exercise intervention at the conclusion of the study.
The study will last for a period of 12 months. During the study participants will be asked to complete 3-5 in-home visits and monthly check in phone calls.
Compensation up to $275 will be provided if all study visits are completed.
