Brief description of study

Specific Aim 1: To validate the diagnostic performance of photon counting/spectral CT to distinguish plaque tissue components in patients with ischemic stroke/transient ischemic attack (TIA) and are treated medically against (1) carotid MRI and (2) plaque segmentation software of the PCCTA images. Specific Aim 2: To validate the diagnostic performance of photon counting/spectral CT to distinguish plaque tissue components in patients with ischemic stroke/transient ischemic attack (TIA) and are treated surgically with carotid endarterctomy against (1) carotid MRI, (2) plaque segmentation software of the PCCTA images, (3) ex vivo CT imaging (landmarking) and (4) histology of plaque specimen. Presence or absence of calcium, intraplaque hemorrhage, and lipid carotid plaque components. Volumes of calcium, intraplaque hemorrhage, and lipid carotid plaque components.
