Brief description of study
The purpose of the study is to determine the changes in muscle metabolites by MRI before and after exercise. The MRI will be performed while performing mild exercise of the calf muscle for 1-3 minutes. We are actively recruiting adults between 18-30, 45-55 and 70-80. Volunteers cannot have diabetes and can not be taking a statin for their cholesterol.
Detailed description of study
The visit to the research center at Penn will occur initially, followed by the MRI scan. Blood will be drawn and sent to the lab to measure blood glucose, metabolic profile, lipid panel and other key markers. Height, weight, waist-to-hip ratio, age, medications/supplements taken, and chronic health conditions will be recorded. A survey on physical activity will be administered. An actigraph, or activity monitor will be assigned to wear for at least 7 days, if willing.
