Brief description of study
The goal of this study is to further our understanding of the relationship between depression and hypersomnia by examining mood-relevant domains of slow wave sleep and reward function.
Detailed description of study
If you agree to join the study, you will be asked to complete the following research procedures: There will be a 2 hour visit during which the study will be described, you will have the opportunity to provide informed consent to participate, and then complete questionnaires and a clinical interview. You will then have your sleep monitored at home for a week. You then will be scheduled to spend two nights in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania sleep center. Each night your sleep will be studied. During the day after the second sleep study you be asked to take a series of brief naps across the day. In between naps you will be asked to complete questionnaires and behavioral tests on a computer. At the end of this day your participation in the study will be complete.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: depression,hypersomnia,sleep

Age: Between 21 Years - 55 Years

Gender: All
Inclusion
- Males and Females between 21 – 55 years old
- Ability to read and speak English
- Individuals with Idiopathic Hypersomnia
- Individuals with Idiopathic Hypersomnia and depression
- Untreated sleep apnea
- Any medications that could impact sleep
- Any change in medical history in the last 2 months
