Brief description of study
The purpose of this study is to better understand how blood
vessel health impacts your thinking. The study is interested in the
brains white matter, which is involved in the movement of messages and impulses
throughout the brain. The study is run out of the University of California
Davis and is sponsored by the NIH. The study is unique because the participants
will be 1/3 Hispanic, 1/3 Black and 1/3 White. Unfortunately at the moment a
majority of Alzheimers Disease and aging data is focused on white populations.
This study is working to address the disparity in representation.
Detailed description of study
The study is a twin study to the Aging Brain Cohort (ABC)
study, so participants who choose to participate are coenrolled in both the ABC
and VCID study. Each year you will come in for an annual ABC visit which
includes questionnaires, cognitive testing and a brief neurological exam. You
will then come in for a second visit which will include an MRI, blood draw and
questionnaires for the VCID study. The VCID study will last three years, requiring three visits over the time period of the study.
