Nutrition Research Food, Genetics, Behavior Study (FOODIE)

Brief description of study

This study aims to identify the interplay between behaviors and genes on growth and development among children ages 5 to 7. It assesses the extent to which children's eating, sleep, and physical activity behaviors impacts their weight development over a 1-year period.

Detailed description of study

Families will be asked to participate in a screening visit and 3 study visits over the course of 1 year. During the first study visit, children will be asked to eat dinner in our Center and have their physical activity and sleep assessed over 14 days with a wrist-worn activity monitor. Children will also be asked to have their saliva collected (study visit 2) and their body measurements assessed on two separate occasions (study visits 2 and 3). Mothers will be asked to complete questionnaires throughout the study.
