UPCC 07422 Intervening on Frailty to Improve Outcomes for Older Allogeneic Transplant Recipients
Investigating Exercise Programs for Older Adults Undergoing Stem Cell Transplantation
Brief description of study
This is an interventional pilot study to determine whether implementation of a supervised exercise program can improve outcomes in subjects undergoing allogeneic HCT. The primary objective is to determine feasibility. Up to 60-72 evaluable subjects will be enrolled. Evaluable subjects are defined as those participating in the exercise intervention.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Allogeneic Transplantation
-
Age: 60 years or above
-
Gender: All
Inclusion Criteria:
Cohort A (Prehab)
- Age 60 years or older.
- Planned allogeneic HCT in the next 1-6 months.
- Hematological malignancy as the indication for HCT.
- Pre-frail or frail by Fried frailty phenotype.
Cohort B (Rehab)
- Age 60 years or older.
- Planned allogeneic HCT or HCT within the last 30 days.
- Hematological malignancy as the indication for HCT.
Exclusion Criteria:
Cohorts A and B
- Comorbid disability or illness that prevents safe exercise.
This study investigates the impact of a supervised exercise program on outcomes for older adults undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). The purpose of this study is to see if such an exercise program can be successfully implemented.
Participants will be divided into two study arms: Cohort A (Prehab) and Cohort B (Rehab). Cohort A includes those planning to undergo HCT, while Cohort B includes those who have had HCT within the last 30 days. Participants will engage in a supervised exercise program, designed to improve their physical health and recovery. The study will evaluate the feasibility of these interventions.
- Who can participate: Participants must be 60 years or older with a planned allogeneic HCT for a blood cancer. Cohort A includes pre-frail or frail individuals, while Cohort B includes those who recently had HCT. Exclusion applies to individuals with conditions preventing safe exercise.
- Study details: Participants will engage in a supervised exercise program tailored to their needs, aiming to improve physical condition and outcomes related to their transplant.
Study is selecting its participants from a population, or group of people, decided on by the researchers in advance.
