Brief description of study
The purpose of this study is to better understand how being in the intensive care unit (ICU) can contribute to patients’ and family caregivers’ financial hardship and cause stress. Our goal is to advance our understanding of factors that contribute to financial hardship. Results from this study will help inform ways to reduce financial hardship in the future for critically ill patients and their family.
We are enrolling both patients and family caregivers. Family caregivers are the people or person most involved in the patient’s care or decision-making. This may be immediate family or any family or friend.
If you agree to take part in the study, you will be asked to complete four surveys over the course of 12 months. Surveys will be completed prior to you or your loved one’s hospital discharge, and at 3, 6, and 12-months afterwards. It will take about 20-30 minutes to complete each survey.
You will receive $10 on a ClinCard for each questionnaire as a token of our appreciation for your willingness to participate. As each follow-up is completed, your Greenphire ClinCard will be topped up within one week of receiving your survey responses. Individuals who are selected for and complete an interview will receive an additional $20.
