Brief description of study

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of changes in cigarette package color on smoking behaviors, harm exposure, and risk perceptions when using low nicotine content (LNC) cigarettes.

Detailed description of study

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of smoking non-menthol, investigational low nicotine cigarettes in different types of packaging.

During five in-person sessions at our Center, participants will provide breath samples, answer questionnaires, and smoke a cigarette in our Center’s well-ventilated smoking rooms. During three remote sessions (completed by video call), participants will complete a brief check in with staff and smoke a cigarette at home.

After the second in-person session, our Center will provide study cigarettes that participants will smoke for the remainder of the study at no cost. At two of the sessions, participants will also be asked to provide a small urine sample. Over the course of the study, we will collect cigarette filters in bags provided by the Center and bring these filter collection bags to each in-person session.

The entire study will take approximately 5 weeks for to complete. Most in-person sessions will be about 1-2 hours long.
