Brief description of study

Colorectal cancer is amongst the top three leading causes of cancer and likewise, the third leading cause of cancer related mortality. In particular, there are limited therapeutic options for stage IV or metastatic CRC (to liver, lungs, and other sites), with 5-year survival being less than 10%. While preclinical model systems do exist, they are variable in their ability to recapitulate faithfully primary CRC, and are constrained for metastatic CRC. Thus, there is a gap in our understanding of metastatic CRC, the primary cause of mortality in patients. As a result, there is a compelling need to enhance our understanding of the pathogenesis of metastatic CRC and improve survival through the development of novel biomarkers and experimental therapeutics.
